Lucca (30 km) famous for its intact 16th-century walls nicknamed “the city of 100 churches”; in the center there is the narrow medieval “via Fillungo” with great shops. Pietrasanta (16 km) with its marble sculpture workshops and studios of famous artists. Torre del Lago (3 km) known for the Puccini Festival that takes place every summer in the big open-air theatre dedicated to the musician Giacomo Puccini who lived and composed his major works here. This town also offers naturalistic excursions by boat on the lake.
